About Us

I lived in Michigan for seventeen years before moving to Kentucky in 2008.  I left all of my friends and family to come here and live in the  beautiful foothills of Appalachia with my now-husband.

He happens to be a truck driver.  The over-the-road kind who is hauling loads for at least a week at a time.  It gets lonely for both of us.  I spent some time out on the road with my sweetheart, but five weeks was enough for me.  Once left at the house alone, I knew I had to build a new life for myself here.  First, I adopted a big dog from the local animal shelter.  She protected me and kept me company at night.

In 2009 our daughter, Violet, was born.  She shook up the countryside and made some noise!  Violet is a firecracker, to say the least.

In 2010 my mother moved to Kentucky from Michigan and she now lives just 2 miles from our house.

Every day Kentucky is feeling more and more like home.  I have been blessed to be able to stay at home with Violet.  I am blessed to be able to explore my creative side.  I love to scrapbook!  I like to try different crafts, and now I’m learning how to sew.  I love to cook, too, and I am starting to do it more often.

This blog is my online scrapbook — a record of the fun things we’re doing, things we are making, what we are seeing and every day Violet is learning!  Welcome to my home.  🙂

  1. Thanks for sharing your story! My hubby is a trucker too, luckily he doesn’t have to do the long haul anymore, but I can totally relate to the loneliness you feel when he’s out there on the road. Good luck on creating you’re new life there in Kentucky! I can’t wait to see what else you’ll share!

    • Oooh! I like meeting other truckers’ wives. That must be great for you that your husband doesn’t do long haul anymore. Hopefully someday the same will happen for us.
Every day, Kentucky feels more like home for me. The key: I have to keep busy! And I can’t wait to share it all with you!
      Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

  3. I just discovered your blog and will be following it. I am trying to adjust to gardening in a place far from what I was used to. In my case, though, I moved FROM Kentucky, not TO it. My heart is still there in many ways, and I’m sure it always will be. May I ask what part of the state you’re in?

    • Thank you for following my blog, Skip! It sounds like we have some things in common.
My family and I live in southeastern KY. What part of the state did you hail from? It certainly is beautiful here and I love it more every day. I hope you are loving your new surroundings and getting the hang of gardening in a new place!
      Thanks again!

      • I grew up in the Lexington area. One branch of my family has deep roots in eastern KY, but probably north of you — they were mostly in Morgan and Magoffin counties.
