A Green, Green Garden

Violet has a Little Critter book called A Green, Green Garden.  She loves it.

Right now I have a green, green garden.  I love it.

It looks like we are going to have a bumper crop of green beans this year.  In a couple more weeks, we plan on planting even more beans (and canning them).

Two rows of peppers — four different varieties — is a good start!  I can’t wait to make salsa!

We have gotten a few handfuls of blueberries off our four bushes.  I think the bushes are reaching toward the garden, though, because the trees behind them need to be trimmed (or cut down).  We just planted these bushes last year and they are growing nicely.

Who wants a watermelon?  Well, you’re going to have to wait a while!

The pumpkins have tiny black bugs on them — they look like fleas.  There are also a bunch of black dots on the leaves and some of the leaves look like they are turning white.  ??  I don’t have a good feeling about this.  Anyone have any tips?

And finally, the tomatoes.  I have been resisting buying any at the store, because they are so expensive and I know I have 3 rows planted in my own garden!

Hurry up and ripen, little ones!

How is your garden coming along?  What is your favorite crop this year?  I can’t wait to hear about your gardens (big and small)!

    • Sure! We have trained the wild deer around here. Not. They just REALLY like the green beans, so that is what we have fenced. Now that we have a tiller, we plan on gradually building a permanent fence around the entire garden.
